Color Me Crazy Contest
Color Me Crazy, if you couldn't already tell, will be a design contest based on colors. Now, it may sound a bit simple but not quite as simple as it may seem I suppose. For this contest, each contestant will choose his or her own color scheme, but the color scheme must fall into one of the acceptable color schemes below. To make it even more challenging, I'm going to have you restrict a color, preferrably a color you use a lot (such as blue for me), from the design as well.
I want people to expand their colors for this contest. Although you may work well with pink, perhaps you don't do so well with orange. If that's the case, then a design based around orange would be fun and challenging for this contest, wouldn't you think? The main point for this contest is to challenge yourself while having fun, so I hope that's how it goes as well.
Contest Deadline: Friday, December 18, 2009 Friday, February 12, 2010 at 10:00 PM CST
Acceptable Color Schemes
- Monochromatic
- Analogous
- Complementary
- Split-Complementary
- Tetradic
Note: Black, white and gray is acceptable for any chosen color scheme along with the colors of your choice. However, if black, white or gray is the color you've chosen to exclude, then don't use it. An example of what an entry would be like can be viewed here.
top?Rules and Guidelines
Here are a few rules and guidelines for you to follow, as a potential participant. Please note that these rules are not necessarily set for the sake of having restrictions.
- Seeing as this is a design site focusing on shounen-ai and/or yaoi based designs, I expect your design to reflect this.
- Designs should be coded in Tables or DIVs, but Inline Frames are acceptable so long as the content and navigational sizes are reasonably sized (in other words, not uselessly tiny or massively large).
- All designs should be browser compatible and friendly with either 800x600 or 1024x768 resolutions.
- Please specify all your credits somewhere (in your email, on the design, in a text file, anywhere).
- If you're going to use fanarts from others (from deviantart or something), please make sure you receive their okay first. If I find anyone using fanart without permission, immediate disqualification will be the result.
- If you have a website, journal or anything else of the sort, please be kind and provide a link back.
- The design and code must be solely your own work (no collaborations please). Please note that theft of any sort is not tolerated. If you're going to use tutorials or something similar for coding assistance, then it's fine so long as you're not viewing the source code of someone else's site and taking their code.
- One entry per person and once you've submitted the entry, it's final. Any edits you wish to do to the design after you've submitted it will not be counted.
- Hopefully, you'll have chosen to restrict/exclude a color before starting your design, but however you decide to do it, please don't forget that you must exclude/restrict a color.

Oh glorious prizes! I've near bent over backwards trying to find some good prizes that would match the theme of this contest. Judging
As per usual, judging will be based on three people, myself and my two younger sisters. The reason for this is because there's a little more variety in terms of taste and knowledge of designs. While I am the designer, one sister is an aspiring animator/comic artist with slight knowledge in design and colors and the other an optician with no knowledge whatsoever in this regard. If and when necessary, two extra judges (Ebony and Avie) will be asked for opinions, both of which, are designing hobbyists that work, professionally, in a totally different field.
top?Miscellaneous
Now, some of you may find it extremely difficult to work with colors, period. Others, well, may just need a little bit of inspiration. To help you out a litte, I've collected a few sites that may help you find a little more inspiration.
